Fifth-grade students present a theatrical performance inspired by the Rumplestiltskin story during the One School, One Book kickoff at Wiesbaden Elementary School in Wiesbaden, Germany, Feb. 27, 2026. The performance helped introduce students and families to the book Rump, a modern retelling of the classic fairy tale.

WIESBADEN, Germany — As students walked the halls of Wiesbaden Elementary School, they were greeted with the feeling of stepping into a Brothers Grimm story—golden walls shimmering, old brick castle towers rising and even a spinning wheel tucked in the corner.

On Friday, Feb. 27, Wiesbaden Elementary School kicked off its One School, One Book program with a humorous and entertaining performance of Rumplestiltskin presented by the school’s fifth-grade students. Their comedic timing and lively performance brought the classic tale to life while celebrating the literary traditions connected to Germany, where the Brothers Grimm collected many of their famous stories.

Through a partnership with the Wiesbaden Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization and the Wiesbaden Community Spouses’ Club, every family received a copy of Rump, a modern retelling of the Rumplestiltskin story. The shared reading experience allows students and families to explore German folklore together while encouraging reading at home.

School librarian Mrs. O’Dell organized the monthlong literacy initiative, which includes a structured reading calendar, daily trivia questions and family-friendly Kahoot activities available through ClassLink. The program will conclude with a Family Literacy Night, giving students and families another opportunity to celebrate reading together.

Organizers said the program highlights how literacy activities can bring the school community together while encouraging students to explore stories connected to the culture and history of their host nation.
