WES Families

Happy December! As the year winds to a close, this month offers a wonderful opportunity to celebrate, reflect, and prepare for the exciting new year ahead. December is filled with significant days and meaningful moments. From Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa to New Year’s Eve, we honor the richness of traditions that bring families and communities together.

Our two-week holiday break begins on Saturday, December 20, and continues through Monday, January 5. This special time allows us all to rest, recharge, and create lasting memories with loved ones. Whether you plan to stay cozy at home or travel, I encourage you to incorporate learning into your family activities. If you are traveling, please stay safe on the roads and enjoy the extra time with family and friends.

Simple projects—like cooking together—provide wonderful opportunities to model reasoning, explore measurement, and practice problem-solving. Baking cookies, for example, can turn into an engaging math lesson on fractions and temperature! Collaborative activities such as crafting, storytelling, or planning a family outing also help strengthen communication and creativity—skills essential for student success.

As the weather turns colder, we encourage everyone to stay warm and safe. Let’s bundle up as we enjoy the beauty of the winter season and embrace the festive spirit it brings.

Thank you for your continued support in nurturing a love of learning at home and at school. We wish you a joyful holiday season filled with love, laughter, and light.

Warmly,
Principal Harwell

Exploring Communities Beyond Geography

This month, third graders at Wiesbaden Elementary School learned firsthand what it means to be part of a community—and how community extends far beyond just a place. As part of our English Language Arts Benchmark Advanced curriculum, students in Unit Seven have been exploring the essential question: What is a community? Through authentic guest presentations, they gained valuable insights into how communities are shaped not just by geography, but by shared values and learning together.
